Cravings of the Maternal Kind

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

It’s commonly believed that pregnant women tend to crave extraordinary combinations of food, such as pickles with ice cream or pizza topped with cherries. In the past 39-ish weeks that I’ve been pregnant, no strange desires of such food pairings ever hit me.

For the most part, I only craved beverages of the fruity variety. In particular was Hi-C fruit punch, loaded with 100 percent Vitamin C (*cue that infamous Graduation song*) and probably 110 percent sugar. My baby will probably have a sweet tooth, just like me.

That said, there’s no need for explanation about my huge craving for chocolate. My intake of chocolate got rather ridiculous, feeling the need to have at least one piece of chocolate on a daily basis, otherwise life as I knew it lost all purpose. Dramatic, yes. Thankfully my intake of chocolate over the past couple weeks has dwindled to eating a piece every other day.

I suppose the only odd combination of foods that I craved was bagels with cream cheese and hot dogs. Or tortillas with cream cheese and hot dogs. But that’s actually a combination I craved even before I became pregnant, and I never considered it a strange craving.

Hello Life, the Universe, and Everything

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

This is probably my umpteenth attempt to reconvene blogging, but please bear with me. Life has been happening, and I finally have some ‘downtime’ to blog on a semi-regular basis again. Three major things of note that are currently going on in my life right now:

  1. I am expecting a mini-me on Friday, August 22nd (that’s a mere three-ish days away!) Excited much? Yes to the power of infinity plus one. The BF and I found out the glorious news during the beginning of this year and have chosen a name, obtained necessary baby supplies (galore!), and child-proofed our apartment. That mentioned, this blog will undoubtedly get flowered with baby news and whatnot from here on out.
  2. I took up photography as a hobby and in a few months may consider pursuing it as a weekend job. We shall see where that leads …
  3. I have managed to cook (and not burn!) a decent amount of meals (mostly pasta dishes), though the BF continues to do most of the cooking.

As a side note, entries in this blog will consist solely of lists of sorts - random and nonsensical thoughts, most likely, so keep your seatbelts fastened!
